About Me
I'm Alan Camardo, a licensed therapist (LMFT) providing counseling and therapy in San Diego, CA, and online throughout California.
My Experience
I have provided in-person psychotherapy for over 12 years, first in the San Francisco Bay Area and now in San Diego.
I served as a teaching assistant for the Couples Counseling class in the graduate studies department of the California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS) in 2021.
I held a three-year position as a counselor and supervisor at an outpatient substance abuse treatment program in San Francisco.
My San Diego Therapy Practice
I have an office in San Diego where I meet clients in person. I also provide online video therapy sessions.
My Approach
My therapeutic approach is tailored to each client's needs. Sessions provide a judgment-free space to gain insights, understand behaviors, and make positive changes.
I have experience helping individuals and couples, including those from the LGBTQ+ community, with issues like communication, intimacy, conflict resolution, and more.
My primary approach is psychodynamic / insight-oriented, but I also incorporate other modalities as needed, including ACT, CBT, DBT, EFT, and Mindfulness. My style is warm, direct, and supportive.
More About Me
I was born and raised in New York State and moved to the Bay Area after completing my undergraduate studies in 1994. I had a career in research, sales, and marketing for corporations for many years, but after discovering the transformative power of personal therapeutic work in my early 30s, I entered graduate school at The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA, to pursue a master's degree in Counseling Psychology. My training included counseling at community-based outpatient counseling centers, where I treated adults, couples, and families with various concerns, as well as working with children and adolescents in elementary and middle school settings. I enjoy indoor climbing, reading, film, the great outdoors, and tasty food.
